Governance Training

Are you the manager of a small to medium sized non-profit organisation? Are you a volunteer member on a non-profit board? Do you want to develop a stronger understanding of good governance?

This unique program is designed to strengthen understanding and skills for sustainable governance through interactive workshops, mentoring and organisational development support.

It recognises the importance of the partnership between governance and management in developing sustainable community organisations and integrates understanding of challenges nd strategies presented by culture - both orgaanisational and diversity-wise:

  • Distinguishing between governance and management and seeing how they are linked
  • Identifying strategies and tools to improve governance in your organisation
  • Applying these strategies to your organisation and evaluating their effectiveness

The program

Sustainable organisational capacity comes from more than just one-off training.

  1. An initial 1 day training workshop on basic governance building blocks. Participants develop action plans to be implemented in their organisations.
  2. Follow-up mentoring support for the organisation assists to implement action plans
  3. Recall workshops are tailored to participants to review and build on initial learning.

The facilitators

Deborah Hall has worked in advocacy, mircocredit, health and education sectors in Australia and PNG and has held numerous capacity building roles as an advocate, trainer, facilitator, project manager and writer in a range of community sector roles including governance, health, legal, disability, education and environment organisations. She uses participatory processes to facilitate strategic planning and has been a board member of a diverse range of community based organisations. Deborah has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors training and Certificate IV in Governance .

John Jablonka has worked for, been on governing bodies of, facilitated strategic planning and designed and delivered training for organisations in Australia, South East Asia, and the Pacific. As a consultant organisational development facilitator he uses participatory planning, evaluation and learning methods to maximise outcomes for diverse teams.His recent work includes facilitating a strategic fraamework for the Kokoda Initiative and building the capacity of small NGO's to use social enterprise models.
